Dixie & Bass Red Blend 2018

Dark in color with dark cherries on the nose. On the mid palate the wine packs black cherries to match the nose but where this wine lives is in the finish where it’s medium in length with some dark cherries lingering along with some mocha notes, black pepper, some leather/oaky notes and some noticeable malbec like flavors. There’s even some jammy notes and hint of bitter, maybe dark chocolate on the finish. The LCBO notes refer to it as classic Bordeaux, but to me this lacks the kind of integration and grace that come from a Bordeaux, so while the blend may be similar … ya this isn’t that IMHO. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad wine, but I won’t be jogging over to the LCBO the grab a case either. Maybe it’s just too young to have come into it’s own, but I don’t think so. I would give it an 87-88. from the LCBO web site, check stock;

Made from a combo of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot that harkens back to classic Bordeaux, this wine was aged for 16 months in American oak. Look for big, dark fruit along with savoury herbs, baking spices and espresso notes, and pour with grilled lamb.[The Sunset International Wine Competition did not include a tasting note.] Score – 92. (Sunset International Wine Competition, 2020)
