Bonterra Merlot 2019

Inky dark in color with a mild dark berry nose. On the mid palate the wine displays lovely deep rich black berries to match the nose, dark cherries and dark chocolate along with some vibrant acidity and firm tannins. This is a serious wine so be careful what you pair it with. We paired it with beef bourguignon and while I can’t say it completely blew it away, it wasn’t a match made in heaven either. On the medium length finish the wine coats the palate and with vevety tannins that stick to the tongue. A very nice, complex wine especially for the money, and I was about to press save when it happened … a sneezing fit, a usual symptom of high sulphites, so unfortunately I would give it an -88 and only if your not allergic to sulphites. Product Details

Concentrated flavors of blueberries and blackberries are nicely framed by moderate tannins in this dry wine that’s been bolstered with 13% Petite Sirah. A full body and lightly gripping texture set it up nicely for pairing with big proteins. Score – 90. (Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast, Nov. 1, 2021
