Valdelacierva Crianza 2016

Dark in color with a dark berry nose. On the mid palate the wine packs a punch with noticeable alcohol straight out of the bottle, along with dark fruits, smokey, oak and spicy notes. The alcohol eased with breathing and was less harsh after about half an hour. On the medium length finish the dark berry notes and tannins stick to the palate leaving some nice dryness and acidity. I would give this an 87-88, a bit of a sharp wine, I won’t be running back for a case … From the LCBO web site check stock:

Valdelacierva Crianza 2016 from LCBO

A firm backbone focuses ripe flavors of black cherry, boysenberry, licorice and mineral in this exuberant red. Juicy acidity keeps this fresh. A bold, modern style. Best from 2020 through 2030. Score – 91. (Thomas Matthews, winespectator.com, Oct. 15, 2019)
