Pepper Tree Merlot 2016

Dark in color with dark berry nose. On the mid palate the wine displays some complex dark plums, cherries and some peppery notes, quite an intensely flavored wine. On the medium length finish the wine displays firm tannins, acidity and noticeable alcohol. This is a shockingly complex wine, but a little young. I would give it an -88 but be sure and pair it with something pretty big or you won’t taste anything but the wine. It earns it’s name, lots of pepper, not a wimpy merlot at all. A come-hither merlot, so approachable and well balanced it’s impossible to criticise it. The flavours are of redcurrant, red cherry, raspberry and cassis couched in integrated but palpable oak, the tannins supersoft. What a bargain. Drink by: 2022. Special Value. Score – 93.
