2013 Kacaba Merlot

Inky dark in color with a nice black berry nose. On the mid palate the wine matches the nose with some lovely rich black berries. The wine is getting a little long in the tooth but the fruit is still there. On the medium length finish the wine displays some nice smooth tannins and acidity. This wine has kept well and is still holding it’s own, but honestly I am not sure for how much longer. I would give it an 88-89. We paired it with a filet mignon and it went perfectly. As did the chocolate chip cookie for dessert! Me cookie monster 🙂 To my tastes this is more of a cab than a merlot, but let’s not be pedantic.

Kacaba are doing some great work and continue to! This one was $29.95 at the winery. I bought it in Jan 2016. Not in the LCBO.
