2000 Spring Valley Washington State Merlot

I tasted this one at a Merlot structured tasting event. I learn something new at every one of the events, and this one was no exception. What I learned from this one is don’t save a Merlot this long unless you don’t like fruit forward Merlots 🙂 As usual I digress. Light almost garnet in color with some browning around the edges with a mild nose. On the mid pallet this still displays some amount of Merlot fruit, some plums. On the finish the wine still has some tannins left. This wine was the best of the night. Smooth, well made and elegant. I would give it a solid 89-90. I would love to have tasted it 5 years ago. Shame. $75 a bottle! Wow.
