Smoking Loon 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

I was at my sister’s 50th birthday party last night (Happy Birthday Sis!) and one of the guests brought this one by. It is mild on the nose, deep in color. On the mid pallet are some lovely deep and rich typical California cab cherry flavors. It is nice and round in the mouth. On the finish the wine is medium with some nice spices coming through. I wouldn’t say as strong as pepper though. The fruit is good but not too overwhelming, so not fruit forward and not too sweet. The alcohol is well under control as is the oak. This is a lovely wine. Well balanced, and well made. I was shocked at how young it is. I suspect this is very much a “drink now” sort of wine. I wonder if it will keep long. I would give it an 89-90. For the price this wine is a bargain and I would recommend running out and grabbing some. When I checked there was lots available but that won’t last!
