Terra d’Uro Finca La Rana Toro 2011

Inky dark in color with a dark berry nose. On the mid palate the wine matches the nose with lots of rich dark berries hitting you boldly. This is a bigger wine for sure. On the medium length finish the wine displays some firm tannins, lively acidity and some nice dryness. It’s a nice complex wine. We paired it with a BBQ steak and it went well. The complexity and bold notes are less noticeable with food, so it’s pretty food friendly. I would give it an 88-89 which for the price is a good deal.

From the LCBO web site:
Terra d’Uro Finca La Rana Toro 2011 Tempranillo Blend — VINTAGES#: 424135
STYLE – Medium-bodied & Fruity
The 2011 Finca La Rana seems to be a lighter style of Toro, with a bright ruby color and a nose mixing red and black fruit and an earthy, spicy twist developing a floral note with some hints of Mediterranean herbs, cured meat and licorice, not unlike some elegant wines from the Northern Rhone. The fruit is sourced from a vineyard planting with the plant material from their older vineyard planted ungrafted some 25 years ago. The palate is medium-bodied, very drinkable, juicy and supple. A great Toro that represents good value. Bravo! Drink now-2016. Score – 92. (Luis Gutierrez, erobertparker.com, Aug. 2014) $17.00
