2006 Kacaba Meritage

I love a number of the Kacaba wines. I put this one away back in 2011. I guessed this one would easily keep until 2013. Dark in color with a lovely mild nose of black berries. On the mid pallet the wine displays some subtle black berries to match the nose. You can taste some cab franc coming through. There’s also some lovely earthy notes still present. The fruit is dieing down some but the finish sure isn’t. It’s got a whack or firm ripe tannins along with some lovely dryness, and some nice mouth grip dominated by red berries. There’s still a lot going on in this wine 7 years after harvest. Yum. I would give it an 88-89. Originally $16.95 at the winery!

From the winery’s web site back in 20011:
2006 Meritage – (LCBO# 101477) $16.95 per bottle / $203.40 per case A blend of 50% cabernet franc and 50% cabernet sauvignon. Purplish in colour with aromas of earth, chassis, cedar and leather. The palate offers plenty of plum and blackberry flavours with a touch of mocha and beetroot on the finish. – Mike Lowe – Pulse, Wine pick of the week
