Miguel Torres Altos Ibéricos Crianza 2012

Dark in color with a mild nose of red berries. On the mid palate the wine displays some lighter red berries to match the nose, but this wine lives in the finish where it displays some firm tannins, nice dryness and peppery notes. There’s also a hint of dark chocolate to the wine. Quite complex. It’s still a little young. I would give it an 88-89. Which for the price is a very good deal. It should age for a bit too!

Description: It may surprise you to learn that despite Torres’s enviable international reputation and presence, the Catalan-based Torres family did not produce a wine in Rioja until the inaugural vintage of the Ibéricos Crianza in 2006. This 100% Tempranillo undergoes 12 months of ageing in oak before receiving a further six months in bottle. It will offer red fruit notes with oak and spice accents and is a perfect example of the level of craftsmanship and care that Torres insists upon for its entire range.
